Bernard O’Rourke is a writer, filmmaker, game developer and journalist.
His poetry & short fiction have appeared in Banshee, Spelk, Flash: The International Short-Short Story Magazine, The Tangerine, The Bohemyth, The Incubator, Queen Mob’s Teahouse, The Bogman’s Canon, The Honest Ulsterman, TheEEEL, and Wordlegs. His writing also featured in A Box of Starts Beneath the Bed, an anthology published by National Flash-Fiction Day and Gumbo Press, and in 30 Under 30, an anthology of new Irish writing published by Doire Press and Wordlegs.
He served as Associate Producer on the documentary feature film What Is Going to Happen Next (2021) which was shown at festivals including Barcelona International Film Festival, International Filmmaker Festival of New York, Kerry International Film Festival, London Arthouse Film Festival, and Silicon Beach Film Festival. His short films Impression, Canal (2017) and City Swans (2019) were both shortlisted for the Ó Bhéal Poetry Film Prize at the IndieCork Film Festival.
He recently completed a Master of Science in Games and Extended Reality at Dundalk Institute of Technology, with a particular focus on developing interactive narratives, and the unique aspects of games as a storytelling medium.
As a spoken word artist, he has performed at Arcadian Field, Lingo Festival, NYF Dublin, Culture Night, Just Words, Indie Spirit Dublin, The Monday Echo, Flying South, and more.
As a journalist, he has written for RTÉ, The Irish Independent, The Visual Artists’ News Sheet, Totally Dublin, Magill, GoldenPlec and HeadStuff.
